Lemont Environmental Committee Hosts Events to Celebrate Earth Week

The village's annual spring recycling event was held April 14, along with tree planting at the Lemont Township Community Center. This Saturday, residents are invited to participate in a clean-up of the Heritage Quarries trail.

The village of Lemont will continue its celebration of Earth Week on Saturday with a Heritage Quarries trail cleanup.

Volunteers are needed to participate in the Heritage Committee's annual "Heritage Quarries Clean-Up Green-Up" event from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Participants will spend the morning picking up waste and cleaning up the landscaping along the walking trails in the quarry area.

Garbage bags and cleanup tooks such as shovels and rakes will be provides. Long sleeves, pants and gloves are recommended.

All volunteers are asked to meet at the Heritage Quarries Pavilion at KA Steel Road beginning at 8 a.m.

On Saturday, April 14, the Lemont Environmental Committee hosted an all-day recycling event in the downtown Metra parking lot with the help of local businesses and community groups. Items like prescription medication, ink toner, cell phones, latex paint, motor oil and CFL light bulbs were collected.

The event also collected non-perishable food for the Lemont Food Pantries.

During the morning, several Lemont students and parent volunteers also helped plant between 15 and 20 new trees at the , 16300 Alba St.
