Lemont Park District Kicks off Holiday Festivities with 'Independence Day Extravaganza'

Fourth of July activities will kick off at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Centennial Park, with fireworks scheduled for dusk. The annual Freedom Run will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The is celebrating the Fourth of July one day early with its annual Independence Day Extravaganza.

Festivities begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday at , 16028 W. 127th St. Scheduled activities include a skateboarding competition, 3-on-3 basketball and bean bag tournaments, and live music.

The beer garden and food court will benefit the Lemont Park Foundation.

Fireworks are scheduled to begin at dusk and conclude around 9:45 p.m.

The schedule for Tuesday is as follows:

4 p.m. Lemont Park Foundation's beer garden and food court open

4:15 p.m. Rock Pit skateboard competition

5 p.m. 3-on-3 basketball at the CORE

5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Children's activities begin

6 p.m. Bean bag tournament starts

7 p.m. Five Guys Named Moe takes the stage

The Lemont Park District will host its 35th annual Freedom Run at 8 a.m. Wednesday at Centennial Park. The 5K and 10K races go through scenic Lemont, while the kids' "Dash in the Park" takes place on Centennial Campus.

Runners may register online at www.lemontparkdistrict.org, or on race day for $25. Check-in runs from 6 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
