Lemont Park District Hosts Annual 'Independence Day Extravaganza'

Fourth of July activities will kick off at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Centennial Park, with fireworks scheduled for dusk. The annual Freedom Run will be held at 7 a.m. Thursday.

The Lemont Park District is again celebrating the Fourth of July one day early with its annual Independence Day Extravaganza.

Festivities begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Centennial Park, 16028 W. 127th St. Scheduled activities include live music and 3-on-3 basketball and bean bag tournaments.

The beer garden will benefit the Lemont Park Foundation.

Fireworks are scheduled to begin at dusk and conclude around 9:45 p.m.

The schedule for Wednesday is as follows:

4 p.m. Beer garden and food court open

5 p.m. 3-on-3 basketball at the CORE

5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Children's activities

6 p.m. Bean bag tournament starts

7 p.m. Centerfold takes the stage

9 p.m. Fireworks, presented by the Lemont Park District, village of Lemont and Lemont Township

The Lemont Park District will host its 36th annual Freedom Run at 7 a.m. Thursday at Centennial Park. The 5K and 10K races go through scenic Lemont, while the kids' "Dash in the Park" takes place on Centennial Campus.

Runners may register from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday for $30, or on race day for $35. Check-in runs from 6 a.m. to 6:45 a.m.

The race's sponsor, Tap House Grill, will host an after-party for runners following the event.
