Stanford's Coby Fleener Earns All-America Honors

The Lemont native also earned first team All-Pac 12 honors, and is expected to enter the NFL draft next year.

native Coby Fleener, currently a tight end at Stanford University, has been selected as a member of the CBS Sports All-America Team.

Fleener — a 6-foot-six, 244-pound senior — led the Cardinal receiving core with 10 touchdowns this season. He racked up 648 yards on 32 catches while also leading the team with a 20.2 yards-per-catch average.

Fleener also earned first-team All Pac-12 honors this season for the first time in his career.

He has appeared in 50 games over the past four seasons for the No. 4-ranked Stanford Cardinal. He has 94 career receptions for 1,524 yards and 18 touchdowns.

In January, he helped his team to a 40-12 victory over Virgina Tech in the 2011 Discover Orange Bowl. Fleener caught six passes for 173 yards and three touch downs, setting an Orange Bowl record for yards receiving and tying the record for touchdown catches.

Prior to his time at Stanford, Fleener was an all-conference, all-area, all-state and all-academic honoree at Joliet Catholic Academy. He caught 34 passes for 706 yards and eight touchdowns during his senior year, and was rated as the top tight end prospect in the state by Scout.com.

Stanford (11-1) will close out the season with the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2. They will take on No. 3 Oklahoma State (11-1), the Big 12 Conference champion, at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
