Softball: Lemont Sweeps Doubleheader Against Plainfield South

Lemont 13-8, Plainfield South 3-5. Carly Jaworski leads the Indians on the mound and at the plate in their victory.

Lemont took advantage of the high winds in their doubleheader Saturday against Plainfield South, winning 13-3 in five innings and 8-5 to improve to 11-5 on the season.

“I’m really proud of the way the girls played,” Indians coach Christine Traina said.

The Indians had little trouble scoring in both games. They scored at least one run in nine out of 11 innings on offense. The Cougars made several defensive lapses and weren’t comfortable with the high winds swirling around them.

One player who was very comfortable was game one pitcher Carly Jaworski. She went a combined four for eight in the two games and had six RBI in game one, including a three-run homer and a three-run walkoff double that ended the game.

“(Jaworski) had an outstanding game,” Traina said. “She really played well.”

She was also solid on the mound, pitching all five innings in game one and threw a scoreless inning in the seventh to help close the game for game two starter Erica Nagel.

Nagel had the most consistent day at the plate, going seven for eight with four runs scored and an RBI. Carli Kavanugh went two for six with a solo HR and three RBI.

For the Cougars, Alex Eischen went a combined two for six with a two-run double in game two-run double and Whitney Lamphier went a combined four for seven with a two-run homer.
