Softball: Lemont Lights Up Scoreboard on Senior Night

Lemont 10, T.F. South 0 (4 1/2 innings): Seniors show the way with six-run fourth; starter Becka Anderson dominates on the mound.

Touching all the bases: Seniors and non-seniors alike showed up for Lemont in a dominant 10-0 slaughter-rule win over T.F. South on Thursday. The Indians got off to a strong start with two runs each in the first and third inning. After two strikeouts to start the fourth, seniors Courtney Johnson and Erin Keefe helped Lemont rack up six runs in the inning to put the game out of reach. Senior starter Becka Anderson handled the rest on the mound.

Patch’s MVP: Becka Anderson. Although she went 0-for-3 at the plate with three strikeouts (her first plate appearances of the season), she was dominant on the mound. She struck out seven hitters in five innings and allowed only three baserunners on a walk and two hits.

Key play: In the bottom of the third, with the score 2-0, senior Erin Keefe was called out for runner’s interference after she allegedly booted the ball during a bunt. Immediately thereafter, with Courtney Johnson on first, cleanup hitter Carly Jaworski hit a towering two-run homer to left field to give the Indians a 4-0 lead and grab momentum for the rest of the game.
