Rick Prangen Named SouthtownStar's Girls Soccer Coach of Year

The Lemont High School girls soccer team finished third in state earlier this month.

Lemont High School varsity girls soccer coach has been selected by the SouthtownStar as the 2011 Girls Soccer Coach of the Year.

Rick Prangen, who has coached the Indians for more than 15 years, was selected by the newspaper for his "hard work and ability to push all the right buttons with a young squad."

“It’s a nice honor to receive, but I feel kind of guilty,” Prangen told the Southtown Star. “All my assistant coaches work so hard and are a big part of this. It should be the whole staff getting this award.”

Lemont finished the 2011 season with a 22-5 record, including a . The team posted a nine-game winning streak before falling to Marian Central Catholic in the state semifinal match.

The young squad featured just three seniors—starting defenders Amy Skowronski and Elise Cody and backup goalkeeper Nicole Papiernick.
