Old Quarry Girls Cross Country Team Competes in State Finals

The team traveled to Normal, IL, on Saturday for the Illinois Elementary School Association state championship.

The following information was provided by Dennis Kennedy, activities director at Old Quarry Middle School.

The girls cross country team turned in a solid performance Saturday at the Illinois Elementary School Association State Finals.

Old Quarry finished 25th at the state competition, which was held at Maxwell Park in Normal, IL. The competition featured the top 50 schools in the state, as well as 260 individual runners.

Eighth-grader Claire Gagen turned in the the Warriors' best performance, placing 36th overall. Lindsey Mazur finished 140th,Joy Drassler placed 180th, Kayla Trojak placed 196th, Taylor Campos finished 209th, Gabby Voltarel finished 211th and Beata Drozda finished 232nd.

Old Quarry earned a bid to the IESA state meet by placing second at the Bolingbrook Sectional on Oct. 8.

At sectionals, Gagen placed fifth overall. Mazur was 14th, Trojak placed 15th, Drozda placed 19th and Voltarrel finished 22nd to round out the top scorers.
