Girls Golf: Emily Lejman Improves on Final Day of State Finals

The Lemont High School senior tied for 58th out of 109 competitors Saturday at the IHSA Class AA Girls Golf State Finals in Decatur.

Senior Emily Lejman turned in a solid performance over the weekend in first appearance at the 2011 IHSA Class AA Girls Golf State Finals.

Lejman tied for 58th of 109 competitors in the state competition, which was held Friday and Saturday at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur. She finished with a 36-hole score of 29-over 173 (91-82), and improved by 18 places on the second day of competition.

On the first day of competition, Lejman finished tied for 76th after shooting a 19-over 91. She shot a 10-over 82 over the final 18 holes; her round included nine pars, as well as a birdie on hole 13.

Prospect’s Allison Walsh shot a 5-over 149 (77-72) to win the individual state title. Prospect also won the 2011 IHSA Class AA Girls Golf State Championship, finishing with a 67-ver 643 (318-325) to top runner-up New Trier (74-over 650).

Lejman earned her state finals appearance by shooting a 7-over 78 in sectional play at the par-71 Old Oak Country Club in Homer Glen. She was one of just seven golfers to break 80 in the event.

Lemont posted a team score of 353 in the sectional, and finished sixth of 12 teams. The Indians were just six strokes out of third place, which would have qualified them for a team state finals berth.

Girls golf is the second program to represent Lemont High School in the IHSA State Finals competition this season. The boys golf squad and senior Shane Purtle on Saturday.
