Lemont's Rylie Jay Receives All-State, All-Area Softball Honors

Lemont High School shortstop Rylie Jay has earned all-state, all-region and All-America honors for her play during the 2013 softball season.

Jay, a rising junior, was recently named as a first-team Illinois Coaches Association Class 3A All-State selection, and received all-area honors from the Joliet Herald News, Southtown Star and Lemont Reporter/Met.

She was also cited as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-North Region honoree and a second-team NFCA All-American.

As a sophomore for Lemont, Jay set a school record by batting .584, and tied a school single-season record with 10 home runs. She also led the team with 59 hits, 43 runs scored, 13 doubles, 51 runs batted in, 11 stolen bases, a ridiculous .626 on-base percentage, and an astronomical slugging percentage of 1.050.

Jay helped head coach Chris Traina's Indians to a 25-7 record, a South Suburban Conference title, an IHSA Regional crown and a runner-up finish in sectional play.

Jay is on pace to break records in nearly all offensive statistics. She's a career .505 hitter who already has amassed 109 hits, 84 runs scored, 18 doubles, seven triples, 15 home runs and 97 RBIs.

She has led the team in hits, runs, runs batted in and stolen bases in each of her first two seasons, and Lemont has won 25 games each of those years.
