Lemont's Maggie Hodurek Qualifies for State Track Finals

LHS junior wins discus throw at IHSA Class 2A Kankakee Sectional, earns first berth in state meet.

junior Maggie Hodurek is heading to the IHSA Class 2A State Track and Field Championships after winning the discus throw last week in the Kankakee Sectional.

Hodurek tossed a 102 feet 8 inches during Thursday's sectional competition to edge Kankakee's Ta-Shonna Williams for the title.

The top two performers from each sectional earned a state finals berth. Any other competitor who equaled or surpassed the qualifying mark of 112-6 in the preliminaries would have automatically advanced to the state finals, but there was no such case in Class 2A this year.

Hodurek will be one of 20 athletes competing in the discus. Her toss ranked 15th among all state qualifiers. She will compete in preliminaries at 10:30 a.m. Friday. If she advances to the championship round, she will compete again at 12:50 p.m. Saturday.
