Lemont’s Hayes, Kaminski Make Plans to Play College Baseball

Lemont High School seniors Billy Hayes (Mesa Community College) and Matt Kaminski (North Central College) each have committed to play college baseball beginning in Spring 2014.

Hayes and Kaminski have played significant roles for head coach Brian Storako in his first season heading up the Lemont baseball program.

A left-handed hitting outfielder, Kaminski has enjoyed a terrific senior year in 2013. He had led the team in batting average, and was tabbed as the Joliet Herald News “Player of the Week” after going 11-for-19 with five extra-base hits and nine RBIs in a recent stretch.

Hayes has served as the Indians’ primary catcher for much of the season. At the recent Do It Stevie’s Way Tournament, which drew many of the area’s top baseball programs, Hayes earned the Steven Bajenski “Stevie’s Way” award thanks to his hard work and dedication to baseball.

Hayes and Kaminski each contributed to Lemont’s SSC title-winning team in 2012, when the Indians posted a 21-8 overall record and a 17-2 mark in conference play. Kaminski batted .313 in limited duty, while Hayes did not commit an error in the field in 71 chances.

A high honor roll student, Kaminski will play for head coach John Fitzgerald at North Central, an NCAA Division III institution located in Naperville, and a member of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW). Fitzgerald recently completed his sixth season, as the Cardinals went 18-19 overall (10-11 CCIW) and tied for fourth in the CCIW standings in 2013.

An honor roll performer, Hayes will play for head coach Tony Cirelli at Mesa, a community college located in Mesa, AZ, and a member of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. The winningest baseball coach in school history, Cirelli just finished his 20th year as the program’s head coach. The Thunderbirds went 25-31 in 2013.
