Lemont Hornet Football Teams Advance to Second Round of Playoffs

The organization is aiming to once again send all four teams to the River Valley Youth Football League Super Bowl.

The Lemont Hornets will look to extend their post-season success this weekend as all four teams play in Round 2 of the River Valley Youth Football League playoffs.

Heading into the playoffs, the four teams (Super Lightweight, Lightweight, Junior Varsity and Varsity) went a combined 33-7. The varsity team (9-1) finished first in league standings.

The super lightweights (ages 6 to 9) defeated the Bourbonnais Bears to repeat as River Valley champions, while the junior varsity team (ages 10 to 13) defeated the Orland Hills Wolves 16-12 for their first Super Bowl win in more than 10 years.

The varsity team was upset by the Morris Warriors 15-8, while the lightweights lost 6-0 to Frankfort Blue.

All 2011 Super Bowl games will be played Sunday, Nov. 6, at Lincoln-Way West High School, 21701 Gougar Road in New Lenox.
