Lemont Hockey Club on a Roll Heading into Playoffs

The team — made up of high school students from Lemont, Romeoville, Bolingbrook, Downers Grove North and Lisle — won a big game last weekend against Mt. Carmel High School.

Last week, the Lemont Trojan Hockey Club played a come from behind game against Mt. Carmel High School at the Darien Ice Rink.

After a back and forth first period, the Trojan's fell behind in the second period. Trailing 5-3 midway through the period, the Trojans tied the game with goals scored from by Lemont High School juniors Kyle Millinowisch and Tyler Zaremski.

Mt. Carmel came out strong in the third period scoring three unanswered goals to take an 8-5 lead. In an already exciting, high-scoring game, the Trojans started their second come back. Millinowisch scored his second goal of the game with a feed from Alex Lurie, a junior from Romeoville.

The Trojans gained momentum and it was noticeable that the game was far from over. The score remained 8-5 until 3:05 remained in the game. Senior Mac Nutting, won a one-on-one battle with a Mt. Carmel defenseman and fired a shot past the goalie's blocker side to pull the Trojans within one.

From there, the Trojans were starting to put on the pressure. At 2:12 remaining in the game, Mt. Carmel received a penalty for roughing. Just seconds into the power play, Lemont sophomore Joe Paloian made a nifty top shelf tip off a shot from Lemont junior Dan Desmond at the point.

The Trojans weren't done there. With 38 seconds left in the game, Nutting, on a great pass from Downers Grove North junior TJ Laper, five-holed a wristshot to give the Trojans a 9-8 lead. The Trojans held on to win the game.

"It was one of the most exciting games I've ever witnessed," Trojan Coach Bill Broderick said. "There was no giving up in our guys."

It was senior night for the Trojans, and the seniors made major contributions in this exciting game. Andy Kurzka of Downers Grove North had a goal and a solid penalty kill, while Lemont High School's Dominic Congelose made some key saves to keep the game within reach. Nutting finished with two goals and two assists.

The Lemont Hockey Club is on a roll to the State and ISHL playoffs losing only one game of their last 20 games. The Trojans are a combined hockey club rostering high school students from Lemont, Downers Grove, Romeoville, Bolingbrook and Lisle. For more information on the club, visit www.lemonthockey.com.
