Lemont High School Softball Coach Honored as ICA Sectional 'Coach of the Year'

Traina's team has won two SSC Blue titles and four IHSA Regional crowns.

Lemont High School softball coach Chris Traina recently was honored with Sectional ‘Coach of the Year’ accolades by the Illinois Coaches Association. Traina received her honor at the ICA’s annual awards ceremony at the Chateau Hotel in Bloomington, Ill., on February 23.

Traina was cited as the 2013 IHSA Nazareth Academy Sectional Coach of the Year after guiding the Indians to a 25-7 record in 2013. Lemont captured its second straight South Suburban Conference-Blue Division title, and she was tabbed as the SSC Blue Coach of the Year.

The Indians won the IHSA Class 3A Queen of Peace Regional, and finished as the runner-up to eventual IHSA Class 3A State Champion Glenbard South in the Nazareth Academy Sectional. Over seven seasons, Traina has led the Indians to a 165-65 record.

Lemont has reached the 20-win plateau in six of seven seasons, including four straight heading into the 2014 campaign. Traina’s team has won two SSC Blue titles and four IHSA Regional crowns, and twice has finished as an IHSA Sectional runner-up. Fifteen of Traina’s players have moved on to play college softball.Lemont is scheduled to open the 2014 season at Oak Lawn on March 24 at 4:30 p.m.
