Lemont High School Honors Six Signees

Seniors Vicki Wrobel, Clayton Fejedelem, Danny Lombardo, Courtney Johnson, Jenna Halper and Becka Anderson will all join collegiate programs this fall.

Six Lemont High School standouts were honored during a special ceremony Wednesday for signing with various collegiate athletic programs. Here is a summary of the six recruits and where they are headed next year:

Vicki Wrobel

Sport: Volleyball

Position: Setter

School: Loyola University Chicago

The Skinny: Wrobel is a four-year varsity starter who helped lead the Indians to a 120-26 record, four IHSA regional titles, three South Suburban Conference-Blue Division championships and two IHSA Sectional runner-up finishes.

A 5'7" setter, Wrobel racked up 2,131 assists, 426 digs, 64 blocks and 193 aces during her career. In her final season at Lemont, she led the team with 735 assists and 50 service aces, and finished with career bests in both kills (56) and digs (178).

She earned the squad's "Best Server" award, was named Illinois' MaxPreps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Player of the Week on Sept. 27 and earned co-MVP honors at the end of the 2010 season.

Wrobel is a high honor roll and National Honor Society student. This fall, she will play for head coach Chris Muscat at Loyola, an NCAA Division I school that competes in the Horizon League.

Clayton Fejedelem

Sport: Football

Position: Free safety

School: St. Xavier University, Chicago

The skinny: In just two seasons with Lemont, Fejedelem made his mark as one of the most exciting players in school history. He totaled 152 tackles, nine interceptions and eight touchdowns.

Fejedelem had a standout year in 2010. He was named to the SSC Blue's Defensive Player of the Year, earned all-state recognition and was asked to play in the Illinois Coaches Association's East-West Shrine All-Star Game. He was second on the team with 91 tackles, and led the team with five interceptions.

Fejedelem is a high honor roll student. He joins older brother, Ryan, at St. Xavier, a local NAIA powerhouse.

Danny Lombardo

Sport: Football

Position: Cornerback

School: St. Xavier University, Chicago

The skinny: Lombardo totaled 71 tackles and 20 pass breakups during his career at Lemont High School. He also picked up five passes, blocked two kicks and and added a fumble recovery. He averaged 21.3 yards off six kickoff returns, which included one touchdown.

During the 2010 season, Lombardo collected 42 tackles and 12 pass breakups on his way to earning All-SSC Blue accolades.

Lombardo is also a high honor roll student, and will join Fejedelem at St. Xavier this fall.

Courtney Johnson

Sport: Softball

Position: Catcher

School: Monmouth College, Monmouth, Ill.

The skinny: In her first varsity season last year, Johnson earned All-SSC honors as a catcher. She batted .474 with 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored, and finished the season with a nine-game hit streak. She ranked second on the team in batting average, hits (54) and walks (9), and led the squad in on-base percentage (.524).

In the field, Johnson committed just four errors in 241 chances, and threw out 36 percent (8-22) of would-be base stealers.

Johnson is a high honor roll and National Honor Society student, and plays for the Lemont Sizzlers club softball program. She will play next year at Monmouth College, an NCAA Division III institution.

Jenna Halper

Sport: Softball

Position: Infielder/Outfielder

School: University of Tampa, Tampa, Fla.

The skinny: Despite having short stints on Lemont's varsity squad as both a freshman and a sophomore, Halper became a regular as a junior last year. She batted .316 with three home runs and 16 RBIs. She tied for fourth on the team in home runs, and 11 of her 15 hits went for extra bases.

Halper is a high honor roll and National Honor Society student, and is a member of the Lemont Rockers club softball program. This fall, she well head to the University of Tampa, an NCAA Division II school and member of the Sunshine State Conference.

Becka Anderson

Sport: Softball

Position: Pitcher

School: University of St. Francis, Joliet

The skinny: Anderson has been a major contributor for Lemont in her two varsity seasons. She has a 15-9 record with four saves, posted a 1.97 ERA and struck out 175 batters in 152.2 innings. She is also a .259 career hitter with 13 RBIs.

During the 2010 season, Anderson earned All-South Suburban Conference accolades after posting 11-5 record and a 1.88 ERA. She struck out 118 batters in 96.2 innings of work, completed 14 of her 15 starts and tossed three shutouts. She also set career highs in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, complete games and shutouts (leading the team in each of these categories).

Anderson is a high honor roll and National Honor Society student, and is a member of the Illinois Fuzion. Next year, she'll play for head coach Dick Smith at the University of St. Francis, a NAIA school in Joliet.
