Lemont High School Cheerleaders Set to Shine at State

Wish the ladies good luck as they head into the preliminary round of IHSA state finals Friday, Feb. 7.

Lemont High School varsity cheerleaders will compete Friday in the preliminary round of the state final competition at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, according to the Illinois High School Association website. 

There are 100 total teams competing at the state meet in divisions coed, small, medium and large from across Illinois. 

The Lemont High School team is slated to perform at 12:40 p.m. Friday. The competitions can be viewed live throughout the day online on the IHSA TV website

Those advancing to finals Saturday in the medium division will be announced at 1:20 p.m. Friday. Preliminary results will be posted by the IHSA online. 

The team secured their state bid after a second-place finish at Sectionals Sunday, Feb. 2. at Riverside-Brookfield.

Varsity finished just .53 points behind first-place finisher Oak Forest High School. Rounding out the top five were Tinley Park (84.23), Riverside-Brookfield (84.10), and Lincoln-Way West (81.50).  This marks the ninth consecutive year that Lemont cheerleaders have qualified for the state competition.

The team finished in second place in the medium division in 2013.
