Lemont Golfer Groselak Named Augustana College MVP

The Lemont High grad is making a statement for the Vikings squad even as a sophomore, and says he aspires to even better.

Augustana College sophomore Jake Groselak, a Lemont High School Class of 2011 graduate, has been named the most valuable player of the Vikings men's golf team for the 2012-2013 season.

According to an Augustana release, Groselak led his team with a stroke average of 80.4 over 22 rounds in 12 events, including a +1 73 on Sept. 27 at the Elmhurst Invitational to tie for fifth (out of 82) and a 77 on Sept. 13 at the Scot-Fire-Viking Classic to tie for fourth.

“I was happy with it but there is always room for improvement,” Groselak told the Suburban Life. “I started off not really how I wanted to but as the season progressed, I played better.

“I’m working on getting into the 70s... That’s my focus, to get my average lower. By next year, I’d like to see my average lower by three strokes or so. I’d like to get down to around a 77 average.”

The sophomore told the paper that he learned the game entirely from his father, a Lemont dentist; Groselak is a biology major who is also seeking a dental career, the paper said.
