Girls Soccer: Lemont Takes on Prairie Ridge in State Semifinals

The Indians are making their third IHSA state finals appearance in five years.

The Lemont High School girls soccer team will take on Prairie Ridge on Friday in the first round of the IHSA Class 2A state finals.

The Indians will take the field at 11 a.m. at North Central College's Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, 455 S. Brainard St.

Lemont (21-3-2) is looking to capture its first-ever state title after advancing to the finals in three of the past five years.

Head coach Rick Prangen’s Indians topped host Normal West, 3-1, in super-sectional play Tuesday to advance to the semifinals.

Lemont has outscored its five postseason opponents by a 20-2 margin. Prior to their super-sectional victory, the Indians topped Rich South (8-0) and Evergreen Park (4-0) at their own IHSA Regional, then defeated Joliet Catholic (3-1) and Marian Catholic (2-0) at the IHSA Lincoln-Way West Sectional.

The Indians enter the state finals on a seven-match win streak and as winners of 11 of 12 contests dating back to April 29. They have outscored their opponents by an 86-14 margin through 26 matches, and their only defeats in 2013 have come against IHSA Class 3A teams. Fritz has tallied 16 shutouts, while Jerantowski (20 goals, 18 assists, 58 points) and Mihailovic (16 goals, 5 assists, 37 points) have been the offensive leaders.

In its first state finals appearance, Lemont finished as the Class 2A runner-up in 2009. Two years later, the Indians finished third in the 2011 Class 2A tournament.

The 2013 state championship is slated for approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday.
