Girls Soccer: Lemont Heads to Class 2A State Semifinals

LHS defeats Peoria Notre Dame 2-0 in IHSA Supersectional match.

The Lemont girls soccer team is headed to the IHSA Class 2A state semifinals for the second time in three years after defeating Peoria Notre Dame 2-0 in Tuesday's supersectional match.

Goals were scored by senior Elise Cody and junior Morgan Rex. Freshman goalkeeper Kelly Fritz made two saves and posted her fifth straight postseason shutout.

The Indians (22-4) have outscored opponents 14-0 in five postseason matches.

Lemont will face Marian Central Catholic in the state semifinals at 11 a.m. Friday at Naperville Central. Wheaton Academy and Troy Triad will face off in the other Class 2A semifinal at 1 p.m.

The winners from Friday's matches will play in the state championship at 1 p.m. Saturday. The losers will play in the third-place match at 11 a.m.

Lemont made its first IHSA state finals appearance in 2009, which was the first year the IHSA moved to a three-class system in girls soccer. The Indians finished as the Class 2A state runner-up after falling to Wheaton.

The girls soccer team is the eighth  athletic program to compete in the IHSA state finals this year, according to Tony Hamilton, director of school and community relations for District 210.
