Girls Basketball: Lemont's Kelsey Motto to Compete in Class 3A 3-Point Showdown

The contest will be held Thursday through Saturday in conjunction with the IHSA state finals at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena.

junior Kelsey Motto was selected to compete Thursday in the 2012 Class 3A Country Financial Three-Point Showdown.

Motto will be one of 32 players vying for Class 3A's top three-point shooter. The contest, held in conjuction with the IHSA girls basketball state finals, will run Thursday through Saturday at Illinois State University. 

Motto will be the eighth and final shooter in the first of four Class 3A groups Thursday; Group 1 is set to shoot shortly after 5 p.m. The top four scorers on the first day of competition will advance to the finals, which will be held at approximately 1:45 p.m. Friday, between semifinal games of the IHSA state finals.

The top scorer from that quartet not only will be the 2012 IHSA Class 3A Three-Point Showdown Champion, but also earn the opportunity to compete in the “Queen of the Hill” event, which features the top shooters from Class 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A. That event will take place at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sunday, after the IHSA Class 3A consolation game.

Motto advanced to the Three-Point Showdown thanks to her performance throughout the IHSA Class 3A regional and sectional. She was one of just four players to advance from the Evergreen Park Regional to the Hillcrest Sectional, and then one of just four players to advance from the Hillcrest Sectional to the Three-Point Showdown.

Motto set a school record for most three-point field goals in a game when she knocked down seven in a 46-29 win over Reavis on Jan. 10.
