Former LHS Standout Named Michigan Football Captain

Lemont High School's David Molk is a three-year letterman at the University of Michigan.

Former Lemont standout David Molk was recently elected as a captain of the University of Michigan football team, the school announced.

Michigan football head coach Brady Hoke announced Sunday that senior David Molk, a 2007 graduate of , was one of three captains selected by the team for the 2011 season.

Seniors Kevin Koger of Toledo, Ohio, and Mike Martin, of Redford, Mich., were also elected captains.

"The entire senior class has shown great leadership since the spring, and they all are looked up to as leaders of this football team," Hoke said in a statement. "Kevin, David and Mike are great representatives for our team and the University of Michigan. I will be honored to be led out of the tunnel by them and the rest of the seniors on the Saturdays ahead."

Molk, a three-year letterman, has started 29 career games at center. He started 13 games in 2010, and was named to the All-Big Ten first team by coaches and second team by the media. He was a , which is given to the nation's top center.

This year, Molk was once again named to the preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy and the Rotary Lombardi Award.

Molk was a four-year starter for head coach Eric Michaelsen at Lemont. In his last three seasons (2004-2006), he helped the Indians post a 27-7 record, which included the program's first-ever IHSA playoff quarterfinal appearance in 2005, when Lemont established a single-season record (since broken) for victories with a 10-2 mark.
