Cog Hill's Dubsdread Ranks Among America's Toughest Golf Courses

A recent report by Golf Digest ranked the Lemont course No. 22 on its annual list of the 75 toughest courses in the country.

Dubsdread, also known as Course #4 at in Lemont, was recently ranked by Golf Digest as one the most difficult courses in America.

In the January 2012 issue of the magazine, 75 courses are featured in the annual "America's Toughest Golf Courses" feature. Making its first appearance on the list, Dubsdread ranked No. 22, according to a press release.

Cog Hill officials credit the course's rise in the rankings to its $5 million renovation in 2008 by renowned golf course architect Rees Jones. The renovation included upgrades to the strategy, design, integrity and overall character of the course, according to the release.

"We are very proud to have Dubsdread selected as one of the toughest courses in America," said Frank Jemsek , CEO, Cog Hill Golf and Country Club. "The renovation that we made to the course three years ago has made it harder for the tour player and single-digit handicapper. However, the average golfer will not be impacted as much from the changes if they play the appropriate tees."

Cog Hill played host to the predecessor to the BMW Championship, the Western Open, from 1991 to its final event in 2006. The club then hosted the BMW Championship in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Dubsdread was the only public course among the five Illinois that made the list. Also ranking were Butler National (No. 11), Medinah No. 3 (No. 16), Olympia Fields-North (No. 67) and Rich Harvest Links (No. 75).

Golf Digest's rankings were determined by a panel of 1,100 avid golfers, according to the release. The survey included the 50 courses on the 2007 list, the 100 courses with the highest combined USGA Course Rating and Slope Rating scores, and 100 courses with the highest in Resistance to Scoring.
