Celtics Celebrate Homecoming with Food Drive, Veterans Ceremony

The St. Alphonsus-St. Patrick-St. Cyril youth football program will hold its annual homecoming event Saturday at the Lemont High School football stadium.

A Celtics Youth Football program will hold a charity food drive during its homecoming celebration this weekend to support the Lemont Open Food Pantries.

The Celtics, which is comprised of kids from and , will collect donations from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. during their homecoming games against the St. Mary's of Riverside Demons. The event will be held at football stadium, 800 Porter St.

The food pantries are in need of the following items:

  • Boxed and canned meals
  • Canned meats
  • Microwavable meals
  • Cereals
  • Canned or jarred fruit
  • Snack cups, i.e. Jell-O
  • Granola and breakfast bars
  • Microwave popcorn
  • Tea and coffee
  • Dressings
  • Condiments
  • Non-perishable cheese and spreads

Financial contributions can be made by checks (payable to the Lemont Food Pantry). No cash or debit/credit cards will be accepted. Every bag of items or $5 contribution will earn a raffle ticket for an iPad.

During a special ceremony priory to the varsity football game, the Celtics will honor local veterans who have returned from overseas. The veterans will serve as honorary officials and conduct the coin toss for the varsity game.

The third/fourth-grade developmental game starts at 5 p.m., with the JV at 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow. The varsity team is currently 3-2, while the JV is 4-1. The third/fourth-grade team is undefeated with a 6-0 record.
