Whiz Kids: Old Quarry Scholastic Bowl Team Win Regional Championship

The team will compete Friday in Bloomington, Ill., after winning both its regional and sectional competitions.

Old Quarry Middle School Scholastic Bowl Team

Whiz Kids' Names: Taylor Campos, Natalie McCastland, Danny Corrigan, Jason Hackiewicz, Jimmy Sliwa, Faraz Longi

Whiz Kids' Ages: Grades 7 and 8

Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: On Wednesday, April 25, the team beat teams from Homer Glen Hadley, Markham Robert Frost and Tinley Park Walker to win their Illinois Elementary School Association regional tournament. On Monday, they will take on Bolingbrook Brooks, Crest Hill Richland and Willowbrook Westview Hills for the sectional title.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: This year marks the third regional championship in the team's six-year history. .

Scholastic Bowl tests students' knowledge in a number of subjects, including science, social studies, math and English. The Old Quarry team is coached by Laurie Saulys.
