Whiz Kid: Bobby Baker

The Lemont High School sophomore competed last month at the USA Gymnastics national championship in St. Paul, MN.

Bobby Baker

Accomplishment: Baker , the 2011 Visa Championships, which were held Aug. 17-20 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Minn.

He earned his spot in July after finishing fifth overall at the 2011 U.S. men's qualifier at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. He finished first on the parallel bars, fourth on the high bar, sixth in the all-around competition and eighth on the still rings.

Keys to Awesomeness: During the national championships, Baker placed 10th overall in the junior division, 14-15 age group. He finished 13th in floor exercise, 12th on pommel horse, 10th on rings, 11th on vault, sixth on parallel bars and tied for 12th on high bar.

Baker was one of the youngest competitors in the meet, and competed on the same stage as well-known gymnasts Jonathan Horton, Chris Brooks, John Orozco, Jacob Dalton and Danell Leyva, who won the senior division.
