St. Al's/St. Pat's Chess Club: Whiz Kids

The group recently took home several trophies at a Frankfort tournament.

St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick's Chess Club

Whiz Kids' Names: Ian, Jermeny, Alex, Ryan, Scarlett, Connor L., Connor K., Nathan, Brendan, Cameron, Grace and Albert.

Whiz Kids' Ages: Grades K-1, 2-3, and 6-8

Whiz Kids' School:

Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: On April 15, the St. Al's/St. Pat's Chess Club participated ina tournament at Noonan Academy in Frankfort. Several teams earned trophies in the competition:

  • Ian (K-1): First place
  • Team K-1: Second place
  • Team 2-3: Third place
  • Team 6-8: Second place

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Of the tournament's 79 players, 12 Celtics took home trophies. The St. Al's/St. Pat's Chess Club was started five years ago for children in preschool through eighth grade. The program teaches students critical thinking and math skills from a young age.
