School Superintendent to Residents: ‘Let’s Talk’

Lemont-Bromberek School District 113A will hold a final “Forum for the Future” from 7-8:30 p.m.Tuesday

Lemont-Bromberek School District 113A will hold its final “Forum for the Future” from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Old Quarry Middle School at 16100 W. 127th St.

The forum on Tuesday follows two Saturday morning sessions that took place Nov. 3 and 10. As in past sessions, community members are welcome to participate as much or as little as their schedules permit.

As in previous forums, district residents will have the opportunity to provide input to the 113A Board of Education as it develops its five-year strategic plan to balance academic rigor with fiscal responsibility.

According to District 113A Superintendent Susan Birkenmaier, topics for discussion on Tuesday night have been distilled from data collected through interviews, previous community forums and a recent online community survey. The identified priorities will be presented to forum participants, followed by small-group discussion.

“The results of these conversations will be shared among forum participants,” Birkenmaier said. “It’s an opportunity to build a common understanding of what’s important and what these priorities mean to us as a community.  Our focus will be on the big picture-what’s to be done. The who, when and where will be determined once goals are established. Most importantly, this discussion will be used to guide the board of education in setting its goals for the next five years."

“This is a very informal process that is critical to our mission, “Birkenmaier added. “The goals that emerge from this work will focus our work for the next five years. Please join us if you can.”

For more information, visit the district’s website or contact Birkenmaier at sbirkenmaier@sd113a.org or 630-257-2286, ext. 4605.

Was there ever a time when a full day was offered Jennifer? I was in kindergarten at Oakwood aboutRead More 28 years ago and even then it was half day. If you want full day Kate, St Pats/St Al's, St Cyril's, and I'm sure others are full day.

Let's get real. It is NOT a half day. It is 2.5 hours. By the time kids into class, sing a song,Read More have a snack and pee, they are done for the day. Sorry. Calling a spade a spade on this one.

Is this question really from a teacher? Full-day kindergarTen has a lot of fillers too: they eatRead More lunch, go outside, go to the bathroom, etc. I don't think our public schools allow snacks in the classroom anyway. Any teacher would know that learning starts at home, and a teacher would know how to supplement a kindergarten curriculum.
