On the Agenda in District 113A: Superintendent Search Firms, Next Round of TAWs

The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Old Quarry Middle School.

The Board of Education will consider Tuesday the use of a professional search firm to recruit the district's next superintendent, according to district documents.

During a special meeting last week, school board members from three organizations that specialize in education executive searches: the Illinois Association of School Boards, BWP and Associates, and Proact Search. No action was taken during the meeting.

According to the agenda for Tuesday's business meeting, however, board members will have a formal discussion on the presentations and the next steps in the superintendent search process. The board may take action following the discussion.

The school board is tasked with finding a successor for current Superintendent Tim Ricker, that he will retire at the end of the current school year.

IASB representatives said last week that basic services would cost about $5,000, but the cost could jump to $7,500 should the district decide to create an online survey or hold community forums.

The cost for basic services from BWP and Associates would be about $12,500, while hiring Proact Search would cost between $20,000 and $22,000.

Tax Anticipation Warrants

District 113A Business Manager Barbara Germany and Superintendent Tim Ricker will present preliminary information on the district's next round of tax anticipation warrants, which would be needed in January as part of the state-approved financial plan

In June, agreed to purchase from District 113A — marking the second such agreement between the districts this year. The current debt is scheduled to be retired by Jan. 31, 2012.

The administration is seeking direction from the board regarding the next round of TAWs, including options for securing them.

FY11 Tax Levy

The board is expected to approve Tuesday night the final tax levy for fiscal year 2011.

According to the meeting agenda, the board approved a tentative levy last month at an increase of 9.23 percent over the previous year's extension.

A public hearing will be held prior to the regular business meeting to discuss the tentative levy.

ISAT Data

Last month, information was presented to District 113A board members regarding Illinois State Report Cards — including test scores and Adequate Yearly Progress.

During Tuesday's meeting, Asst. Superintendent Mary Gricus will present data from surrounding school districts in Cook, DuPage and Will counties for comparison.

Tuesday's business meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the , 16100 W. 127th St.
