On the Agenda in 113A: Budget Talks, Labor Agreement

The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education will hold its monthly business meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Old Quarry Middle School LRC.

During Monday night's monthly business meeting of the Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education, board members will consider a two-year labor agreement with the teachers' union, as well as a tentative budget for the 2011-2012 school year.

According to district documents, the district has reached a tentative agreement with the Local 604 of the American Federation of Teachers—both certified and support staff. Under the proposed contract, teachers would take a salary freeze over the next two years.

The board will also consider a tentative budget for fiscal year 2012, which needs to be approved and sent to the Illinois State Board of Education by the end of September.

The budget must be on display for 30 days, so a special meeting could be scheduled for Aug. 30 for a public hearing and approval.

  • Attorney contact/bills: Per the request of board members, there will be a special report and discussion on "attorney contact, bills and other information related to these topics," according to district documents;
  • Finance/Audit Committee membership: Board President Mike Aurelio and Board Member Al Malley, the committee chairperson, will make three recommendations for new committee members;
  • Copier maintenance/supplies agreement: The administration is recommending a $29,705 agreement with ImageTec for maintenance of the district's 12 copiers during the 2011-2012 school year;
  • New agreement with Warrior Booster Club: The board will consider a new agreement with the booster club for the 2011-2012 school year. The group's tentative budget is $115,000, according to district documents;
  • Discussion of board member responsibilities: Per the request of board members, a discussion will be held on the responsibilities of the board.
