Whiz Kids' accomplishment: The team won its conference tournament Saturday for the second year in a row. The Warriors started the day with a 19-1 victory over Westview Hills, then completed a 15-0 victory over Lakeview and defeated Westmont 3-0 in the championship game.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Coach Scott Chromcak wrote, "The girls battled as a team all day, even through the cold temperature and misty rain.

"Spinelli and Threet each struck out 11 batters and gave up just one run on six hits in the three games they pitched. Old Quarry played outstanding defense all day, including a diving catch from Olkiewicz. Team MVP Jay had six hits, including a home run and triple. Folliard had six hits of her own as did Irwin, who scored seven runs and drove in nine runs.

"Multiple hits were also collected by Conway, Stecyna, Henry, Olkiewicz, May, Spinelli and Threet."
