Mardi Gras 'Mask-er-Aid' Raises $11K for SD 113A Educational Foundation
It's not too late to make a donation to the charitable group, which provides educational materials and programs beyond the operating budget of the school district.
Nearly 200 people wore festive beads and masks to support the School District 113A Educational Foundation’s Mardi Gras Mask-er-Aid on Saturday. By the end of the night, the group had raised $11,000 to fund materials and programs for the schools.
Board of Education President Dave Molitor joined the Blooze Brothers Band on
stage to sing “Sweet Home Chicago,” one of the more creative auction items
available that evening. The auction also featured bisque fired masks created by Old Quarry students and school groups including the PTO and Band Boosters. Many more raffle and auction prizes were donated by local businesses, schools and families.
“We are truly grateful to all the businesses, organizations and families who helped make this such a successful event," said Foundation President Mara Tunzi.
The 12-piece show band opened the festivities with a traditional horn parade
through Ruffled Feathers Golf Club before taking the stage with its unique act.
Guests filled up on a New Orleans-style buffet, then headed to the dance floor.
Profits from the event will fund grants to be awarded to district teachers this year. Additional grants are funded by Diamond Grant Underwriter Oxbow Midwest Calcining and Platinum Grant Underwriter John Piazza, Country Financial.
Piazza will donate an additional $25 to the Foundation for each family who
schedules a financial consultation with his office. (Forms are available on the

The next grant application period will open soon, and district staff will be invited to request funding for enrichment resources. Past grants have funded iPads, field trips, software licenses and art supplies across all grades in the district.

goal of the Foundation is to provide educational materials and programs beyond
