Lemont’s Junior Achievement Company to Sell 'Lemontopoly' to Community

The Lemont-themed game serves as a directory for some of the top businesses and organizations in Lemont and its surrounding areas. A limited number of games now are on sale.

Lemont High School’s Junior Achievement organization has created the ultimate hometown product for Lemont residents.

“Lemontopoly” not only will provide students, parents, alumni and residents with their own localized version of the classic game “Monopoly,” but it also serves as a directory for some of the top businesses and organizations in Lemont and its surrounding areas. A limited number of “Lemontopoly” games now are on sale.

Each year, Lemont’s Junior Achievement organization builds a business from scratch. Students form a board charged with creating the product, selling stock in the company and marketing the product, all with a goal of reaping a dividend for its shareholders.

This year’s Junior Achievement Board has been hard at work to bring “Lemontopoly” to the Lemont community. That board includes seniors Margaret Rogers (President) and Lainey Saucedo (Vice President of Public Relations); juniors Conner Brandt (Vice President of Finance), Connor Koehler (Vice President of Marketing) and Melissa Smith (Vice President of Production); and sophomore Rachel Brunory (Vice President of Human Resources).

The Junior Achievement Board worked with senior DJ Wohead and Art teacher Megan Skopek—herself a 2005 Lemont graduate—to capture the rich history of Lemont while creating the “Lemontopoly” game board. All of the slots available for advertisements on the game board sold out, which is affording customers the opportunity to pre-purchase games at a lower cost before they are delivered to campus.

The cost to purchase “Lemontopoly” is just $15 for individuals who pre-purchase games prior to delivery, but that cost will increase to $20 after the games arrive. Only 250 games will be available for purchase.Individuals who are interested in purchasing their own “Lemontopoly” game should visit the company’s Web site at www.lemontopoly.com. Patrons who visit that site—which was designed by senior Erika Kubowitsch—can click on any of the squares to learn more about the advertisers.

“Lemontopoly” can be purchased online from the company’s Web site, or can be purchased by downloading an order form from the site and returning it to the school to the attention of Junior Achievement advisor and Business teacher John Aspel.Established in 1919, Junior Achievement is an educational nonprofit organization that brings financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs into classrooms from kindergarten through high school. Junior Achievement of Chicago is the largest of the organization’s offices in the United States.

Its programs empower students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world—enhancing the relevance of their classroom learning and increasing their understanding of the value of staying in school.
