The Benet Academy student is one of 24 finalists vying for a chance at an all-expense paid trip to a performance enrichment program in New York.

A Lemont resident has been named one of 24 finalists for the 2014 Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards.

Benet Academy student Frank Zabilka has been invited to participate full day of workshops with theatre professionals, that culminates in a performance on stage at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place on April 25.

During the day, finalists will audition for a panel of casting agents and theater professionals who will choose the recipients of performance awards, as well as the newly established honor for High School Musical Scenic Design.

From the finalists, one actor and one actress will be chosen to represent Illinois in the finals in New York. These two talented young stars will be provided with an all-expense paid trip to participate in a performance enrichment program, representing the state of Illinois at the National High School Musical Theater Awards, on Broadway, on Monday, June 30, 2014.

In addition to the day of workshops featuring the Associate Choreographer of NEWSIES, the finalists will receive tickets to see NEWSIES in Chicago, playing the Oriental Theatre Dec. 10, 2014 through Jan. 4, 2015.

The National High School Musical Theater Awards, also known as The Jimmy Awards, are named for legendary Broadway theater owner and producer James M. Nederlander. Broadway In Chicago is a Nederlander presentation, and is excited to join the network of theatres across the country participating in The Jimmys.
