Lemont's Maggie Brown Named to State's Top High School Concert Band

The Lemont High School junior and contra bass clarinet player was named to the Honors Concert Band during the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) All-State Conference last month.

junior Maggie Brown, a contrabass clarinet player, was named to the state's Honors Concert Band last month during the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) All-State Conference.

The annual IMEA All-State Conference—held Jan. 25-28 at the Peoria Civic Center—attracts the top performers from across the state. The event includes guest conductors, seminars and a number of concert performances.

Brown was one of just two contrabass clarinet players invited to the event. She rehearsed alonside the best musician in the state, and capped her experience by performing in the IMEA Honors Concert.

Her participation in the conference also afforded her the opportunity to meet representatives and recruiters from reputable music colleges from across the the state.

Brown earned her berth to the IMEA All-State Conference by virtue of
her performance at the IMEA All-District Festival at Downers Grove South
on Nov. 19. Fellow juniors Vince Dory (bass clarinet) and David Spinelli (clarinet) also took part in the All-District Festival.

All three advanced to the festival after IMEA auditions (among up to 2,000 other students) at Sandburg High School in Fall 2011. Brown, Dory and Spinelli all serve as first chairs in their respective sections in Lemont High School’s Symphonic Band.
