Lemont's Amber Trick Named to IHSA All-State Academic Honorable Mention Squad

The Lemont High School senior was one of 76 students in the state to receive All-State Academic honors.

Lemont High School senior Amber Trick has been named as an honorable mention selection to the 2012 IHSA All-State Academic Team, which is sponsored by Caterpillar.

The all-state academic squad is composed of 26 athletes—13 male and 13 female—who embody what it means to take advantage of the entire high school experience. Another 50 students are tabbed as honorable mention picks.

Trick has excelled both in and out of the classroom during her tenure at Lemont High School. She helped the girls cross country team to four consecutive berths in the IHSA Class 2A state finals, becoming the first Lemont cross country runner to appear in four state finals events.

Trick is in her third season on the varsity girls soccer squad. She helped the team to a third-place finish at the Class 2A state finals last year.

In the classroom, Trick ranks among the top 5 percent in her class. She was part of state-qualifying Mathletes squads as a freshman, sophomore and junior; is a member of the National Honor Society, National French Honor Society and the Mu Alpha Theta mathematics honor society; and was recently tabbed as an Illinois State Scholar.

More than 450 student-athletes from across the state were nominated by their schools for the honor, and less than 20 percent of those nominees were chosen to receive all-state or honorable mention accolades.

Each school may nominated one female student and one male student for consideration. Nominees must possess a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average, have participated in at least two IHSA sponsored sports or activities as juniors and seniors, and demonstrated outstanding leadership.

Nominations are evaluated by a committee comprised of IHSA principals, representatives of the Illinois Activities Directors Association and representatives of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association. One male winner and one female winner from each of the seven IHSA Board of Directors divisions are selected initially, and the final 12 spots are filled with at-large candidates from anywhere in the state.
