‘Lemont Loves the Arts’ Highlights Student Talent

We're happy to share some of the creations of Lemont student-artists that were showcased Thursday night at Oakwood School. If you took photos at the open house and would like to share them, please feel free to upload them to this story.

The artistic creations of students from Oakwood, River Valley, Old Quarry, St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick, SS. Cyril and Methodius, Everest Academy and the Montessori School of Lemont were showcased at the “Lemont Loves the Arts” open house Thursday night at Oakwood School.

Lemont PTO launched the Lemont Loves the Arts program in 2010 to bring students from all of the village’s schools together through art.

The theme of the third annual showcase, submitted by Annie Koziel of Oakwood School, was “My Favorite Family Fun Is …” Drawing their inspiration from the theme, student-artists in grades K-8 created photography, dance, fine arts, music, literature, computer-generated art and videography.

Local art experts judged entries based on interpretation of the theme as well as originality, creativity and artistic merit. Student artists whose entries earn a first- through third-place from the judges will receive a medal during a special ceremony at the Lemont Center for the Arts in January.
