Lemont High School Students to Perform 'Singin' in the Rain'

The musical will run Thursday, May 19, through Saturday, May 21, at the school's Performing Arts Center.

The public is invited to grab some umbrellas and head out to this weekend for this year's spring musical production, Singin' in the Rain.

The show will run Thursday, May 19, through Saturday, May 21, at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, 800 Porter St.

Singin' in the Rain is based on the 1952 film classic starring Gene Kelly. The story centers on Kelly's character, Don Lockwood, a silent film star in the golden age of Hollywood.

When Lockwood's first "talkie" experiences success, studio heads decide to convert his next project with leading lady Lina Lamont from a silent film. However, Lamont's grating voice hampers the production, and the decision is made to turn the film into a musical comedy and overdub Lamont's voice. Much to the chagrin of Lamont, Lockwood falls in love with her voice double, Kathy Selden.

The film is an instant success, and Lockwood and others expose Lamont for the fraud she is, opening the door for Selden to become a star.
