Lemont High School Students Stress Anti-Bullying to Old Quarry Students

The high schoolers presented seven, one-hour interpretations of the poem, "To This Day" in an effort to educate on bullying and ways to prevent it.

This spring, a group of Lemont High School students came together to share a powerful message with students and staff at Old Quarry Middle School.

Both our Performance in the Round cast and junior Nick Lambrakis (an IHSA Speech State Finals Qualifier) performed their interpretations of Shayne Koyczan's powerful poem, "To This Day". Old Quarry held seven one-hour assemblies; the Performance in the Round cast performed for seventh and eighth graders, while Lambrakis delivered his IHSA Regional-winning speech to fifth and sixth graders.

The assemblies also included presentations from James Melbourne Durant III—who serves as Chief Counsel for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, at Argonne National Laboratory—and Old Quarry Assistant Principal Shirley Kleehammer.

The purpose of the assemblies was to inform students about the various forms of bullying and ways to prevent it.

That cast included junior Kevin Lindgren; sophomores Justin Bell, Dana Kahle and Clare Rachwalski; and freshmen Rebecca Bailey, Thomas Dzielski, Kiara Hardy, Sami Schoell and Kimberly Van Hecke.
