Lemont High School Speech Team to Host Annual 'Faculty Idol' Competiton

Student/faculty groups will sing and dance on the Performing Arts Center Stage on Friday to raise money for the award-winning speech program.

Lemont High School students and faculty members will team up this Friday for the Speech program's annual "Faculty Idol" music competition.

"Faculty Idol 7" will include singing and dance numbers from as many as 10 faculty/student duets or groups. This year, the show will put all musical performance styles back on the table. More than 10 faculty/student duets or groups are slated to appear, and anything—from karaoke to dancing to riffs from a good ol’ rock n’ roll band—can happen.

Every Faculty Idol entry must include at least one Lemont High School faculty or staff member, but there is no limit to the number of groups with whom those faculty and staff can perform.

Each act will perform once, and judges will chose their top five entrants to perform one more song in the finals. The audience's applause will determine the winner.

The current lineup of faculty and staff members includes a pair of two-time Faculty Idol champions, Music teacher Matt Doherty (2008, 2010) and Career and Technical Education Chair Ken Ferry (2007, 2012). Mathematics teacher Ashley Good, who teamed with Ferry to win last year, will take her talents to a new group this year. Good, fellow Mathematics teacher Amanda Huling, Spanish teacher Anne Marie Duggan and social worker Krissy Bergles—all of whom are expectant mothers—will headline the group “Baby BOOM!”.

Science teacher Scott Collins (as Ryan Seacrest) will host the event, and will be assisted by sophomore Becca Zagorski.

Tickets for the event are $10, and can be purchased in advance online

Tickets also will be available for purchase at the door while they
last.

Lemont’s speech program won its fourth straight South Suburban Conference-Blue Division title earlier this year, and tied for fifth at the IHSA Reavis Sectional, marking the program’s best placement in sectional competition.
