The magazine is written, produced and marketed by Lemont High School students each year, and is fully funded through advertising. Inkspot is run like a business, with students forming a board that is in charge of selling the product, selling stock in the company, marketing the product and, hopefully, reaping a dividend for its shareholders.

District 210 Community Relations Director Tony Hamilton said the students who run the magazine decided to use some of this year's proceeds to give back to the community. The consensus was to invest in the up-and-coming art students at Old Quarry, he said.

Inkspot Vice President of Public Relations Lainey Saucedo wrote in her later to Principal Caron:

"We are very pleased with our success this year and are very happy to donate to our own community. Please use this donation to fund the arts program and art supplies at OQMS. In a time where the economy dictates the loss of funding for arts programs in so many schools around the country, we are passionate about keeping the arts alive. We are delighted to further the education of local students who will soon be part of our Lemont High School family."

Gricus said the money will likely be used to purchase art supplies for the upcoming school year.
