Lemont High School Junior Earns First Place at Drafting Competition

Szymon Krzeptowski-Mucha will compete at the Illinois Drafting Educators Association's state competition next month after earning first-place honors at the regional event.

For the fourth time in five years, a student has earned first-place honors in the Illinois Drafting Educators Association (IDEA) Regional Drafting Competition.

Junior Szymon Krzeptowski-Mucha won the Architectural Board division at the IDEA Regional at Joliet Junior College on Friday, which qualified him to compete at the state competition April 14 at Illinois State University.

In the Architectural Board division, Krzeptowski-Mucha’s challenge was "to design and/or draw specified views, details or sections within a three-hour period using provided materials, specifications and drawings," according to a District 210 press release.

Nearly 120 students from a number of Joliet-area high schools competed in eight divisions at the event, which was one of 18 regionals across the state. All first-and second-place finishers earn the right to compete at the IDEA state
competition.

Lemont’s drafting program, led by teacher Scott Duensing, has had a great deal of success in recent years at the IDEA regional level. The school has boasted a number of regional champions, including Ryan Strauss (3D Architectural CAD Modeling) in 2008, Nick Lawrence (3D Architectural CAD Modeling) in 2009, and Mark Kaminski (Architectural Board) and Kathy Sitko (Introductory Board) in 2010.

Lemont’s top finisher at the IDEA state competition was Sean Armbruster, a 2009 graduate who was the runner-up in 3D Architectural CAD Modeling category.
