Lemont High School Lauds Students of the Month

Each month, LHS honors a student from each grade level for hard work and dedication to the school and the community.

Four Lemont High School students were honored with October “Student of the Month” accolades at the district’s Oct. 15 board of education meeting.

Included among the honorees were senior Rachel Bogo (Physical Education), junior Ciara Athy (Art), sophomore Andrew Podczerwinski (Foreign Language) and freshman Kristin Ramski (Family and Consumer Sciences).

The Physical Education Department chose Rachel Bogo as the Senior Student of the Month. A high honor roll student, Rachel’s favorite classes this year include English IV and Journalism.

Described as an excellent student and teammate, Rachel challenges herself to improve every day and supports others with encouragement. She is one of the school’s most involved students; serving as captain of the dance team, event coordinator for Interact, and as the Student Council treasurer. She also is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and Foreign Language Club, and is a junior cheerleading coach for St. Cyril’s and the Lemont Hornets.

In college, Rachel hopes to study either dance or journalism, and aims to be happy and successful in whatever career she chooses. When not dancing, she likes to spend time with her family and friends.

Ciara Athy

Ciara Athy was selected as the Junior Student of the Month by the Art Department. While Ciara enjoys all of her classes, she most enjoys her art classes, including Studio Art III and Drawing and Painting III. Her teachers note that her dedication and creativity have helped her refine her outstanding artistic talent.

Ciara is involved in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including the dance team, Art Club, Interact and the Foreign Language Club. She was part of last year’s musical, serves as a junior class officer, and skates competitively on the Downers Grove Dazzlers Synchronized Skating Team.

A high honor roll student, Ciara plans to continue skating and to pursue a college major that incorporates her artistic skills. Over the summer, she worked part-time in a chiropractic office and attended class at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Andrew Podczerwinski

The Foreign Language Department selected Andrew Podczerwinski as the Sophomore Student of the Month. A high honor roll student, Andrew’s favorite classes include German II and English II.

His teachers describe him as an excellent student who not only works hard, but also is friendly and conscientious. Andrew has overcome some tremendous obstacles over the past few months, but his teachers laud him for being a genuinely terrific person and describe him as a pleasure to have in class.

A member of the wrestling program last year, Andrew is involved in the Foreign Language Club and also works hard with physical and occupational therapy. In the future, Andrew plans to attend Northwestern University and study neurology.

Kristin Ramski

Kristin Ramski was chosen as the Freshman Student of the Month by the Family and Consumer Sciences Department. Less than two months into her high school career, Kristin already has impressed her instructors with her positive attitude and the meticulous nature of her work. Kristin is taking Family and Consumer Sciences and French for the first time, but notes that her favorite class is English I Honors because she loves to read and write.

A member of the cheerleading program, she also is involved in the Great Books club and volunteers frequently. As a middle schooler, she was a high honor student and earned the ‘Perfect Attendance’ award.

In the future, Kristin hopes to attend culinary school, become a pastry chef and own her own bakery. She enjoys baking, cooking, crafting, shopping and spending time with her friends.

About the Student of the Month program

Each month, Lemont High School honors a student from each grade level for hard work and dedication to the school and the community. Selections rotate among the school’s various departments from month to month. Only 32 students earn Student of the Month accolades each school year, with four individuals honored each month from October through May. Students may be selected for this prestigious honor only once in their careers at Lemont High School.

Local businessman Brad Grcevic of Edward Jones Inc. in Lemont contributes a donation each month to a charity selected by the Student of the Month award winners. This month’s winners
selected the Christopher Reeve Spinal Cord Injury and Paralysis Foundation to receive the donation.

An archive of previous “Student of the Month” winners may be found under the “Academics” tab on the district’s Web site, www.lhs210.net.
