Lemont High School Honors November 2011 Students of the Month

Senior Kendall Smith, junior Lynn Stanwyck, sophomore Andrew Kramer and freshman Nathan Palermo were recognized during the Nov. 14 meeting of the District 210 Board of Education.

Four students received Student of the Month accolades earlier this month for their outstanding work and dedication to community.

Senior Kendall Smith, junior Lynn Stanwyck, sophomore Andrew Kramer and freshman Nathan Palermo were recognized during the Nov. 14 meeting of the District 210 Board of Education.

As part of the honor, Brad Grcevic, of Edward Jones Investments in Lemont, makes a charitable donation on behalf of the students. Each student is encouraged to nominate a charity, and then the four must come to a consensus on which organization should receive the funds.

This month, the students chose the Lemont Food Pantries to receive the donation.

Only 32 students are honored as Students of the Month from October to May. Students may only be selected once during their time at Lemont High School.

November Honorees

Nathan Palermo, Freshman

Nathan Palermo was selected by the Science Department as the Freshman Student of the Month. His teachers note that he takes on a leadership role in the classroom and demonstrates a willingness to learn, showing particular curiosity about the science fields. His maturity level is evident in the fact that he holds his classmates accountable and keeps them focused, his teachers said.

Palermo is a member of the football program; he was moved up to the varsity roster for the postseason after competing at the sophomore level as a freshman. He enjoys motor sports in his spare time, and hopes to one day design and develop video game technology.

Andrew Kramer, Sophomore

Sophomore Andrew Kramer received Student of the Month honors from the Lemont High School Business Department. Kramer is a high honor roll student who has already excelled at a number of business cources, but he notes that Accounting I is his favorite. His teachers describe him as a dedicated student who takes pride in his work and understands the importance of higher education.

Kramer is involved in a number of extracurricular activities, including the Future Business Leaders of America, cross country, basketball, and track and field. He plans to attend college and pursue a cereer in the business field.

Lynn Stanwyck, Junior

Lynn Stanwyck was chosen as the Junior Student of the Month by the Mathematics Department. She is an exceptionally motivated, high honor roll student whose favorite classes include Advanced Placement Calculus BC and Advanced Placement Chemistry. She has been a key member of the Mathletes for the past three years — frequently finishing as its high scorer in competitions.

Stanwyck serves as the captain of the girls swimming team, the president of the school’s Mu Alpha Theta organization, and is involved in girls track and field, Interact, Foreign Language Club, National English Honor Society and Sign Language Club. In college, she plans to study science and mathematics. In her free time, she referees soccer games, gives swimming lessons and plays piano.

Kendall Smith, Senior

Senior Kendall Smith was named Student of the Month by the Music Department. A high honor roll student, Smith cites her band courses and French IV Honors as her favorite classes. In addition to being an excellent performer on the marimba, she serves as the percussion section leader for marching band and helps younger students to perfect their music. Her teachers said her cheerful attitude is infectious and that she holds everyone around her to a high standard.

Smith is also involved in concert band, Foreign Language Club, indoor percussion and the spring musical, and earned French National Honor Society accolades. She enjoys hanging out with friends and listening to music in her free time, and says she hopes to be “happy and grateful” wherever life takes her.
