Lemont High School Honors January 2012 Students of the Month

Senior Monica Furczon, junior Sam Abboud, sophomore Ann Baillie and freshman Tyler Schoell were recognized during the Jan. 9 meeting of the District 210 Board of Education.

Four  students have been named "Students of the Month" for the month of January for their outstanding work and dedication to community.

Senior Monica Furczon, junior Sam Abboud, sophomore Ann Baillie and freshman Tyler Schoell were recognized during the Jan. 9 meeting of the District 210 Board of Education.

As part of the honor, Brad Grcevic, of in Lemont, makes a charitable donation on behalf of the students. Each student is encouraged to nominate a charity, and then the four must come to a consensus on which organization should receive the funds.

This month, the students chose both the Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana and the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Illinois to receive donations.

Only 32 students are honored as Students of the Month from October to May. Students may only be selected once during their time at Lemont High School.

January Honorees

Tyler Schoell, Freshman

Tyler Schoell was selected by the Health Department as the Freshman Student of the Month. His teachers describe him as a very conscientious student whose consistent participation in class is highlighted by his thoughtful comments. 

Schoell's favorite classes are Mathematics and Biology. He participated on the boys cross country team in the fall and hopes to play baseball in the spring. He plans to study architecture in college, and ultimately hopes to run his own architecture firm.

Ann Baillie, Sophomore

Sophomore Ann Bailee received Student of the Month honors from the Driver Education Department. Baillee is a high honor roll student whose favorite subjects include English, Spanish, World History and Accounting. She is involved in a number of extracurricular activities, including Great Books Club, Foreign Language Club and Interact.

Sam Abboud, Junior

Sam Abboud was chosen as the junior Student of the Month by the Guidance Department. A high honor roll student, Abboud cites Pre-Calculus and Advanced Placement U.S. History as his favorite courses. His teachers laud his work ethic, and note his willingness to assist others in class.

Abboud is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society, as well as the varsity boys basketball team. He plans to attend a four-year college and is interested in pursuing a career in the medical field. In his spare time, he enjoys basketball and music.

Monica Furczon, Senior

Monica Furczon was named Student of the Month by the Special Education Department. A high honor roll student, Furczon cites art and mathematics as her favorite subjects. She earns A's in nearly all of her classes and has participated in a number of community service projects—all while holding a part-time job. Her teachers said her kindness and compassion will carry her far in life.

Furczon plans to attend Benedictine University and hopes to become an orthodontist. In her free time, she enjoys arts and crafts, dancing, music, movies and spending time with friends.
