Lemont High School Athletic Hall of Fame to Add Three Inductees This Year

The Athletic Hall of Fame will enshrine three inductees at a ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 30, at , at 12294 Archer Avenue in Lemont.

Included among the honorees are Kevin Earnest, Class of 2002, Anthony Jordan, Class of 1991 and Suzette (Lesnieski) Sniegowski, Class of 1976. The honorees make up the ninth induction class for the Lemont High School Athletic Hall of Fame, which was established in 2004.

The 2012 Lemont High School Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony will begin with a reception at noon Sept. 30, followed by lunch at 1 p.m. The induction ceremony will begin at approximately 1:45 p.m.

Tickets for the event cost $25 each. Reservations must be made through the Lemont High School Athletic Department by Wednesday, Sept. 26. To make a reservation, call the athletic department at (630) 243-3207.

Lemont High School provided the following information about this year’s honorees:

Kevin Earnest, 2002 LHS graduate

Kevin Earnest, a four-year varsity soccer letterman, helped Lemont to a 63-15-6 record from 1998-2001. He graduated among the Class of 2002’s “Top 2 Percent,” was a member of the National Honor Society and named an Illinois State Scholar.

He was an Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA) All-State honoree in 2001 and tabbed as an IHSSCA All-Sectional and Star Newspaper All-Area pick as a junior and senior. Earnest also participated in basketball and track and field at LHS and was named “Most Athletic” of the Class of 2002.

Earnest was also an All-Suburban Prairie Conference selection as a sophomore, junior and senior; Suburban Prairie Conference MVP as a junior in 2000 and two-time tri-captain and team MVP. He led the team in scoring each year from 1999 to 2001, scoring 173 career points (69 goals, 35 assists) and helped the squad to an 18-2-2 record and a conference title in 1999. The team went 17-4-1 in 2000 and won an IHSA Sectional title.

He earned a scholarship to play men’s soccer at Northwestern University and received Honorable Mention selection to Northwestern’s “Team of the Decade” for the 2000s.  Earnest scored 28 career points (11 goals, six assists) while at Northwestern and never missed a collegiate match, starting 61 of a possible 81 contests. Five of his 11 career collegiate goals were game-winners.

Earnest played in the 2004 Big Ten championship game and helped Northwestern to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2004. He was named an Academic All-Big Ten honoree both as a junior in 2004 and a senior in 2005.

Anthony Jordan, 1991 LHS graduate

Anthony Jordan is one of the top amateur bowlers in the state and an accomplished member of the United States Bowling Congress. The owner of many sanctioned 300 games and 800 series, he bowled back-to-back 300 games in USBC Open Championship play and finished 22nd of more than 350 participants at the 2010 Professional Bowlers Association U.S. Open – as the only amateur among the top 24 finishers.

He won the Bradley Open (in Lexington, Ky.) in 2010 and was a member of the five-man Fox Bowl squad that won the Team All-Events title at the 2008 USBC Open Championship in Albuquerque, N.M.  Jordan was Illinois State All-Events Champion both in 2003 and 2005 and a five-time Boot Hill Champion, ranking ninth all-time with a career 202 average in Boot Hill competition.

The three-sport athlete participated in baseball, basketball and golf at Lemont High School and was a four-year member of the Outdoor Club.

Jordan provides bowling lessons to youth bowlers – and talent for the sport seems to run in his family, as his sister, Tammy (Jordan) Richter (Class of ’94) finished fifth at the 1994 IHSA Girls’ Bowling State Finals.

Suzette (Lesnieski) Sniegowski, 1976 LHS graduate

Suzette (Lesnieski) Sniegowski was a pioneer for girls’ sports at Lemont High School. The four-year member of the Girls Athletic Association served both as secretary and treasurer of the organization.

She was the girls track and field team’s MVP as a senior in 1976 and won the Northeast Conference title in the high jump as a senior. Sniegowski captured the district title in the long jump in 1975 and finished as the Northeast Conference runner-up in the long jump as a sophomore and senior.

Sniegowski was a member of the Northeast Conference 440 Relay championship squad in 1974 and a four-year member of the LHS cheerleading squad, serving as team captain in 1976. She also participated in the uneven bars as a gymnast.

At LHS, Sniegowski was a member of the National Honor Society, served as president of her freshman and sophomore classes and vice president of her senior class. She was also a member of the Student Council, was named to the prom court as a junior in 1975 and named “Most Popular” in Lemont’s Class of 1976.

The active Lemont community volunteer is the mother of two Lemont High School graduates: Joshua Sniegowski, Class of ’06 and Aubrey Sniegowski, Class of ‘09. She is a member of the Illinois Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
