District 113A Educational Foundation Gears Up for 'Pre-Bowl Bash'

Tickets are still available for the Feb. 4 event, which will raise money for educational grants in Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A.

For the second year in a row, the Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Educational Foundation will kick off Super Bowl weekend with a night of live music, dancing, food and fun—all to raise money for educational grants.

The second annual Pre-Bowl Bash will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, at , 1 Pete Dye Drive. More than 250 people are expected to attend the event, which will feature a live performance by the Neverly Brothers.

"We are so excited to bring back this event," said event organizer and foundation board member Michele Metzler. "Last year, we scored big for District 113A, and this year we hope score a touchdown by exceeding last year's profits of $19,000."

A number of raffle prizes and silent auction items will be available during the event, including autographed sports memorabilia, hotel stays, gift cards and event tickets. There will also be a bean bag tournament for the more competitive guests.

"This event is so exciting, as it not only raises money that goes directly to the schools, but it also brings the community together for a fun night," Metzler said.

The District 113A Educational Foundation was founded in May 2010 after the district cut more than $3.17 million in staff and programs. Its purpose is to provide financial resources beyond the operating budget, which students and teachers may use toward educational enrichment.

Last month, the foundation awarded its second round of grants, totaling $17,750, according to a press release. New purchases included MimioTeach systems, iPad2 devices, updated world maps, art supplies, books, magazine subscriptions and a license renewal for Brain Pop software.

Sixth-and seventh-grade math students at are now enjoying lessons on the Mimio systems, which feature interactive whiteboard technology.

"This technology will allow teachers to go beyond the classroom and into the real world to see mathematics in action," said sixth-grade math teacher Julie Hayes. "Students will be more excited about math and become more engaged in the lessons each day."

At , teachers are benefiting from 10 new iPad2 devices., which were requested specifically for special needs children.

"Technology is crucial in helping students of all abilities succeed in the classroom," teachers Tammy Krauklis and Bev O'Rozco said in the release. "The iPads will enhance student learning across the curriculum."

"In addition to helping with basic academic skills, the technology offers many other benefits for the students at River Valley," they stated. "Working on the iPads will provide motivation for students and improve their ability to work together in small groups."

Grants are funded through donations and events like the Pre-Bowl Bash, which is the foundation's biggest fundraiser of the year.

Tickets for the Pre-Bowl Bash are still available. They can be purchased for $55 each or $100 for a pair at , 1243 State St., or through foundation members. Guests pay $65 at the door.
