District 113A Board Recesses Meeting, Delays Superintendent Vote

The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education voted to suspend a five-hour business meeting shortly after midnight Wednesday. They will reconvene at 7 p.m.

The  Board of Education delayed voting on a new superintendent after spending three hours in closed session Tuesday night.

Shortly after midnight, District 113A board members voted unanimously to recess the meeting until 7 p.m. Wednesday. Board Member and official spokesperson Lisa Wright said they will pick up where they left off in closed session.

"The board still has business to discuss, so we weren't ready to adjourn the meeting," Wright said.

According to the agenda for Tuesday's business meeting, District 113A board members were to consider the appointment of a full-time superintendent to take office July 1. The board voted to take action on the item after closed session, but there was no mention of the superintendent search when the board reconvened.

During a brief report on the search early in the meeting, Board President Mike Aurelio said: "There's not much to add to that. That process is continuing. We're looking forward to a conclusion some point in the near future."

The District 113A school board will reconvene at 7 p.m. Wednesday at , 16100 W. 127th St.

The appointment of a superintendent would officially end a five-month search that began when the board  of former Superintendent Tim Ricker in October. Just two month later,  from his position.

Last month,  who were recommended by the district's search firm, the Illinois Association of School Boards. The field was narrowed to two finalists, both of whom were interviewed again the week of Feb. 20 by District 113A teachers and administrators, as well as representatives from each of Lemont's taxing bodies.

According to district documents, District 113A Vice President Dave Molitor and Board Member Al Malley conducted a site visit for one of the finalists Feb. 29. A  to further discuss the superintendent search.

District 113A is currently under the leadership of Interim Superintendent Robert Madonia, . He will serve in a part-time capacity through June 30.
