District 113A Approves Tentative Budget for 2013-14 School Year

The proposed budget, though balanced, has increased over last year's budget due to the implementation of the district's strategic plan.

The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education voted unanimously Aug. 7 go approve a tentative budget for fiscal year 2014.

According to the draft budget posted to the District 113A website, the board is once again expected to approve a balanced budget. The total operating revenue is expected to be $21,567,406 and the total for operating expenditures is budgeted at $20,518,924—a difference of $1,048,482.

"None of the funds are in a deficit spending position for the next fiscal year," District 113A Business Manager Barbara Germany said. "We anticipate to stay right on target. We're trying to keep each one of the funds as we budget going forward to have revenues as close to expenditures as possible and take any extra money to put toward the education fund."

The overall proposed budget is 14 percent higher than last year due to bond payments and an increase in expenditures related to the newly-implemented strategic plan.

District 113A is expected to put a little more than $2 million toward its strategic action plan during the 2013-14 school year. The money has been earmarked for new staff, technology upgrades, capital projects and curriculum changes.

In accordance with state law, the tentative budget will be available for public inspection for 30 days in the District 113A administrative office, 16100 W. 127th St.

A public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, prior to final approval.
