Community Invited to ‘Lemont Loves the Arts’ Open House

Event will showcase talents of Lemont student-artists from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood School.

Tap into the talent of local young artists at a community open house for “Lemont Loves the Arts” from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood School. The event will showcase the artistic creations of students from Oakwood, River Valley, Old Quarry, St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick, SS. Cyril and Methodius, Everest Academy and the Montessori School of Lemont.

Lemont PTO launched the Lemont Loves the Arts program in 2010 to bring students from all of the village’s schools together through art.

The theme of the third annual showcase, submitted by Annie Koziel of Oakwood School, is “My Favorite Family Fun Is …” Drawing their inspiration from the theme, student-artists in grades K-8 have been creating photography, dance, fine arts, music, literature, computer-generated art and videography since the beginning of the school year.

Thursday’s open house will provide an opportunity for community members to enjoy the students’ artistic creations. The event will also feature refreshments, a drawing for an art supply basket – and a chance for students to suggest a theme for Lemont Loves the Arts 2013-14.

Local art experts judge entries on interpretation of the theme as well as originality, creativity and artistic merit. Student artists whose entries earn a first- through third-place from the judges will receive a medal during a special ceremony at the Lemont Center for the Arts in January.
